Britain’s Rob Huff will continue his world title charge when the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) heads to Salzburgring, Austria, for rounds 11 and 12 of the season on 19-20 May 2012.

The Austrian rounds mark the mid-point of the competitive 2012 season, in which Newmarket’s Huff has secured seven podium finishes and victory during his racing debut at the Slovakia Ring. His results to date put him third in the drivers’ standings, only 30 points behind current leader and Chevrolet team-mate Yvan Muller.

Huff has not raced at the Salzburgring previously; however, the prospect of competing at a new track doesn’t daunt the talented sportsman, as he proved when he claimed a win in Slovakia in April.

“Salzburgring isn’t somewhere I’ve raced before, but we’ll be doing the usual thorough preparation to make sure we’re ready for the new challenge,” said Huff. “Former WTCC racer Michel Nykjær has raced here in the European Touring Car Cup with Chevrolet, so I will be utilising his track knowledge.”

Despite the unknown, Huff is resolute that successes will continue in Austria and during the second half of the season. It’s this determination that has secured him runner-up places in the WTCC Drivers’ Championship for the past two seasons, and this year he is again focused on taking the fight to the wire.

“At this point in the championship, there’s still so much that can happen,” added Huff. “This time last year Yvan was behind me in the points but went on to win the title, so the tables can easily turn. My main aim for Austria and the remainder of the season is to get our qualifying performance back on track so that we’re at the front of the grid, and to follow this up with two trips to the podium.”
