World Title Contender Huff To Take On The Algarve
Newmarket racer Rob Huff travels to the Algarve, Portugal, for rounds 13 and 14 of the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) on 3 June 2012, hoping to continue his fine run of form on his world title charge.
The Chevrolet works driver had an excellent weekend at Austria’s Salzburgring a fortnight ago, taking first and second-place finishes to climb to second in the Drivers’ Championship. Huff also claimed his first pole position of the season, taking his weekend points tally to an impressive 48.
As a result, Huff now sits just eight points behind standings leader and reigning WTCC Champion Yvan Muller with 12 rounds of the 2012 season still to come. Huff’s performances have also contributed to Chevrolet’s strong lead of the Manufacturers’ Championship, which now stands at 157 points.
Huff has experienced success in Portugal: on his last visit to the country he claimed victory on the streets of Porto. The 32-year-old also finished on the podium in the weekend’s other race.
“I can’t wait for Portugal and the chance to get back behind the wheel of my Chevrolet Cruze,” said Huff. “I had one of the best weekends of my life in Austria, and just want to get back out on track to keep my good run going and increase my points tally. It’s all about consistency between here and the end of the season to ensure I’m within reach of the world championship trophy.”
