WTCC Champ Huff drafted in for Chinese Touring Car development programme
Reigning FIA World Touring Car Champion, Rob Huff, is in China this week working through a programme of driver and chassis development in the emerging Chinese Touring Car Championship (CTCC).
Huff has been developing the Team Shanghai VW 333 Racing Volkswagen Polo GTI CTCC racer, based on an RML-derived chassis supplied by the Hong Kong-based Gusto Technik firm – the company responsible for drafting in Huffy.
Following a successful test at the Shanghai Tianma Circuit in record temperatures – the mercury topped 50 degrees Celsius – Huff moved on to the spectacular Guangdong International Circuit in the Guangdong prefecture of China for two days of coaching with touring car drivers from China, Hong Kong and Macau.
Huff travelled to China with BAM Motorsports Group Director, David Madgwick, who pieced the deal together and said: “BAM has been increasingly active in the Chinese and Asian racing scene over the past couple of years and we’re delighted to bring the reigning FIA World Touring Car Champion Rob Huff here to work with the Chinese.
“It speaks volumes of the ambition and developing professionalism of the CTCC teams and drivers that they want input from someone of Rob’s calibre. The reception he has received and the results achieved have been tremendous and we hope to expand the programme with additional visits.”
Huff returns to the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) fray for the American leg of the 2013 season on the Sonoma Raceway in Southern California (7-8 September).
