Rob Huff to join Leopard Racing Team WRT this weekend at Spa
Rob Huff will make his TCR Benelux debut this weekend at Spa-Francorchamps, where he’ll pair up with TCR International Series points leader Jean-Karl Vernay in the team’s Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, run by top-flight Belgian touring car and sportscar operation Leopard Racing Team WRT.
It will be Huff’s first time racing in the TCR Benelux series, the national touring car series for Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg.
The 2012 WTCC champion will race with the team’s regular driver, French star Jean-Karl Vernay, who currently leads the TCR International Series standings with the team which also won the 2016 drivers’ title.
Belgium’s chief touring car series features a novel race weekend format which has similarities with sportscar racing, where the two drivers share the same car over the course of the weekend. The drivers will both race the car during a one-hour qualifying race on Saturday, before each racing the car solo for two of Sunday’s four sprint races.
Rob Huff said:
“I’m really looking forward to this opportunity to race with such a great team as WRT. They’ve been one of the top teams in motorsport for years, and to race with them at Spa-Francorchamps, also one of my favourite circuits, is fantastic.
“I’m also really looking forward to racing with Jean-Karl. He’s a fast driver and currently the championship leader of the International Series, and I’m sure we’re going to work well together.
“I’ve got a lot of experience in the TC 2000 series’ Buenos Aires 200km race, so I’m used to sharing a car during a weekend. It’s not so often I do it with a touring car though, so it’s going to be an interesting experience.”
