Rob Huff steps down from CTCC campaign at Shanghai
Rob Huff will switch from driver to a consultant role for the season finale of the China Touring Car Championship this weekend at Shanghai with the SAIC Volkswagen factory team. Huff’s new goal will be to help the team win the manufacturers’ crown at the Shanghai International Circuit.
Fresh from celebrating his ninth Macau victory, the British driver calls time on his CTCC campaign after three events. Huff has taken pole position and won the first race on all three occasions, finding himself in the lead of the championship with one round to go.
Huff’s role at the team was to help push them forward and and ensure they were in a strong position at the end of the season. With the performance of the SW VW333 Racing team’s Lamando GTS having been turned around, with the team now taken over the lead of the manufacturers’ table, the Cambridge-based driver’s job is now complete.
Rob Huff said:
“We’ve already achieved our targets earlier than we planned. My purpose at SAIC VW333 Racing was to help move the team forward with the development, drivability and set-up of the car. The team’s now in a fantastic position in which to claim the manufacturers’ championship, which is their No.1 goal.
“By stepping back from behind the wheel, I’ll be now able consult with the team during this weekend’s race and work with them to help make sure they win the title.”
333 Racing team advisor Paul Hui added:
“Rob’s done an amazing job this year. The experience and professionalism that he’s brought us has put us right up front for the season finale at Shanghai, and now he’ll be able to help us make sure we win the manufacturers’ title, working with the drivers and the engineers to get the best out of our Volkswagen Lamando GTS.”
