Rob Huff back with Volkswagen for 2019 CTCC campaign
World champion back to fight for manufacturers' title
Rob Huff will return to race in the 2019 China Touring Car Championship for a third consecutive season, racing with the leading SAIC Volkswagen 333 Racing team as their international driver.
The 2012 world champion will race in the allocated four rounds for non-Chinese drivers in the top tier Chinese championship, competing in the team's Volkswagen Lamando GTS touring car alongside team-mates Zhang Zhen Dong, Rodolfo Avila, Junfei Fu and Han Han.
Huff first drove for the team in 2017, then a contender for the drivers' title despite half a year's campaign, and helped the team secure the manufacturers' title.
Last year, Huff was only able to take part in two races due to clashing commitments in the WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup, but will able to compete in four rounds this year, alongside his programme with Volkswagen Motorsport Customer Racing in the 2019 WTCR.
The first round of the season took place last weekend at the Guangdong International Circuit, with Zhang Zhen Dong finishing on the podium in the main race on Sunday.
Rob Huff said:
"It's great to be back racing with the SAIC Volkswagen 333 Racing team, after all the success we've had in the past two years.
"The China Touring Car Championship has become my second home away from the WTCR, and we've had some fantastic battles in the series. The racing is always very tough, and very close, and in China another factor which always makes the races thrilling is the unpredictable weather.
"After I wasn't able to do more than two rounds last year, it'll be great to be doing the full half-season as the team's international driver, and the aim is to help the guys win both the drivers' and manufacturers' titles. It will be a tough ask against some stiff competition from Ford and Kia, but I know we can do it."
