Huff announced as test and development driver for renowned sportscar tuner Litchfield
Former FIA World Touring Car Champion Rob Huff is proud to have forged a partnership as an official test and development driver for world-renowned sports and supercar tuners, Litchfield Motors.
Established more than 15 years ago by Iain Litchfield, the Gloucestershire-based company originally made its name in the Japanese tuning market and is globally recognised as the authority in Nissan GT-R performance modifications.
It has continued growing year-on-year to become one of the most distinguished names in high performance car sales and tuning and Litchfield’s investment in the latest equipment and facilities, as well as highly skilled and experienced technicians, ensure it is able to perform at the very highest levels from its critically-acclaimed service and upgrade centre.
In addition, an intrinsic understanding of the high performance market has seen Litchfield win a number of coveted industry awards, including Evo Magazine’s Tuner of the Year 2010, and also partake in an unprecedented five Evo Magazine Car of the Year features, two Autocar Driver’s Car of the Year events and four items on Channel 5's Fifth Gear.
However, in a testament to its ongoing commitment to quality, Litchfield has officially welcomed former World Champion Huff to its ranks as part of its highly skilled technical test team.
The accomplished racer from Newmarket is firmly established as one of the greatest touring car racers of his generation, having won every scholarship and accolade during a rapid ascent up the motorsport ladder, en route to the 2012 FIA World Touring Car Championship Drivers’ crown.
Huff is also recognised as a very capable test and development driver, and those who have worked with the Briton on his way to multiple championship titles attribute his success to his unquestionable ability to deliver reliable chassis and setup information with clarity and efficiency.
These skills are transferrable from the racetrack to the road and the former World Champion will use his talents to fulfil a test and development role with Litchfield and have a hand in signing off many of the firm’s new chassis and powertrain conversions prior to sale, starting with the BMW M4 (pictured).
Explaining Huff’s role, Litchfield Managing Director, Iain Litchfield, said: “Rob has a unique insight that only a versatile World Champion can bring. We know many fast drivers, but Rob understands the importance of a driver’s involvement with their car much more than any racer we’ve ever worked with. When we test, Rob’s not so much about chasing tenths of a second each lap, but rather how he can improve the sensation between car and driver and, most importantly of all, how he can make the car easier to drive and more predictable at the limit and, ultimately, more fun to drive.
“Rob will also help us speed up the R&D process without compromising on quality. His race setup experience means we can arrive at a desired configuration so much quicker than we otherwise would, particularly when we are developing chassis enhancements. He has a sixth sense behind the wheel that he is able to quickly translate to our engineers with incredible clarity. This should make significant time out of our test schedule, while simultaneously giving us a better overall result.”
Huff’s input has already proven to be invaluable, as Litchfield puts the finishing touches to its new BMW M4 packages, as well as a raft of new enhancements for the perennial Nissan GT-R.
Speaking of his new partnership with Litchfield, Huff said: “It’s brilliant to be able to announce a relationship with a partner who has a product that’s so close to my heart. While being a professional racing driver, I still enjoy performance development in road cars and even entrusted my own Nissan GT-R to Iain Litchfield, so I’m looking forward to working with Iain and his team of technicians to further develop Litchfield’s already fantastic reputation and products. The passion everybody at Litchfield has for the company’s products is brilliant and they have been a wonderful team to work with. We have a lot of fun while we are refining these packages.”
