Dazzling Dubai 24 Hours podium for Huff and Munnich Motorsport
Rob Huff and his ALL-INKL.COM Munnich Motorsport teammates Rene Munnich and Marc Basseng all drove superbly to achieve a podium finish in the 2014 Dunlop Dubai 24 Hours endurance race (9-11 January).
The ninth running of the Dunlop-backed 24-hour contest – the first endurance race of the New Year – attracted a bumper 77-car entry that included a vast number of top-line teams and drivers from around the globe.
Dubai’s cityscape served as a dazzling backdrop for the event at the state-of-the-art Dubai Autodrome, which boasts a demanding layout that tests the mettle of even the most talented and experienced of drivers.
The fight for outright victory in the A6 class was hotly-contested throughout. There were no fewer than 27 lead changes over the course of the race with ten cars taking turns out front.
The Saxony-based ALL-INKL.COM Munnich Motorsport team, meanwhile, started from 12th on the grid. Fine attention to detail in the preparation of its striking Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3, a devastatingly strong strategy and stellar stints from Huff, Munnich and Basseng would propel the team up the leaderboard.
As strategies played out and rivals faltered, the unflappable Munnich Motorsport team continued plugging away and steadily climbed up towards the sharp end of the field.
However, the sleep deprived German squad was ultimately denied victory by Code 60 penalties – it served just shy of nine minutes in the penalty box for various infringements – and therefore took the finish in second place with around 600 laps under its belt.
Huff completed over ten hours behind the wheel, proving once again that he’s a master of adaptation and a highly competent driver in both sprint and endurance competition.
Exhausted and only running on adrenaline, the Newmarket-based driver extended his gratitude and congratulations to ALL-INKL.COM Munnich Motorsport on a sensational result, which concludes a fruitful year-long association.
“I’m so grateful to ALL-INKL.COM Munnich Motorsport for everything it has done since the very beginning of our relationship and I’d like to congratulate my two great teammates, Rene and Marc, on an incredible result,” said Huff. “This really is the perfect way to end a year’s association and sharing the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 – which ran faultlessly throughout – with such gentlemen was an honour. They both proved that they're quality drivers.
“It’s great to achieve such a positive result as a team. It was a fantastic feeling to win for Munnich Motorsport in the WTCC and this podium in Dubai proves beyond doubt that my endurance racing capabilities are equal to my touring car capabilities. I look forward to more opportunities and success in endurance racing in the future.”
